Mosquito trucks are spraying overnight through Friday
Plus the beach planning study and two new rooms near Young Circle.
Mosquito trucks are working overnight, and a familiar downtown garage is closed. Here’s what changed in Hollywood and what’s on the calendar this week.
Broward County mosquito-control trucks are treating parts of Hollywood through Friday, Sept. 4. Crews will spray larvicide from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting.
The treatment targets Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus larvae. Those mosquitoes can spread dengue, yellow fever, and chikungunya. Their larvae grow in small pools of water, including buckets, planters, birdbaths, and bromeliads.
The active ingredient, Bti, is a naturally occurring, biodegradable bacterial larvicide registered with the EPA. The county says it is not harmful to people, pets, bees, or aquatic habitats. You can help by emptying standing water around your property. For a mosquito problem, call 311 or Broward Mosquito Control at 954-765-4062.
Radius Garage is closed downtown until Saturday
The Radius Garage is closed to public parking through Saturday, Sept. 5. Crews are pressure-washing the garage and doing scheduled maintenance.
Residents and authorized access-card holders can still enter. Everyone else can use Polk Lot 2, Taylor Lot, or legal on-street parking.
The city plans to reopen the garage to the public on Sunday, Sept. 6.
Two new rooms open near Young Circle
Common Room is now open at 2032 Harrison Street near Young Circle. The 2,000-square-foot dining room seats about 65, with outdoor seating planned. The menu includes a $24 Wagyu burger, $26 mushroom pappardelle, and $38 fried chicken.
Behind a bookshelf is The Brooklyn Room, an invitation-only cocktail bar with hip-hop and jazz. Managers control entry. Common Room also offers an $18 martini service and spirit-free cocktails.
The restaurant serves dinner Wednesday through Sunday and is closed Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday hours are 5 to 10 p.m. It stays open until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Reservations are available online.

New beach rules would trade bonuses for public benefits
Hollywood has released a planning framework for future beach development. The proposal creates an optional Bonus Overlay District rather than replacing current zoning.
Developers could seek extra height or density in mapped areas. In return, projects would face stronger design, resilience, public-space, and parking requirements. The Broadwalk would keep a lower-scale edge, while the greatest potential height would move toward A1A.
The overlay would not approve any project automatically. Each application would still need public review and a City Commission vote. Participating projects would also need shadow studies. The city could move, narrow, or reduce a proposed tower to protect the beach and Broadwalk.
The overlay would expire after five years unless the commission extends or reenacts it. The city says the approach responds to state laws that reduced local control over qualifying development.
