New downtown residents want daily needs closer to home
Hydrant testing, two budget briefings, and October dining registration.
A new downtown snapshot shows what neighbors value and what they still want within walking distance. We also have two useful stops and a pair of budget briefings for next week.
A new survey shows how some of Downtown Hollywood's newest neighbors feel. The city sent nearly 800 postcards to eight new apartment communities. Staff asked about 85 people to take part. In all, 59 people took the survey from April through August.
Nearly 90% said they were happy with life here. More than 91% would tell others to live in Hollywood. About 69.5% had no plans to move soon. The work is still under way and does not speak for the whole city.
People asked for more grocery stores, shops, drugstores, places to eat, gyms, and arts programs close to home. They also raised traffic, parking, safer roads, parks, and the need to match new growth with public works.
The answers show strong pride in downtown. They also show that daily needs have not caught up with new homes yet.
Restaurants can sign up for DineOut Hollywood
Local places to eat can now sign up for DineOut Hollywood, October 1-31. Each one can offer a set-price lunch menu, dinner menu, or both.
The monthlong event aims to draw residents and guests to places to eat across the city. Each spot can choose lunch, dinner, or both for its deal.
The city is now asking places to join, so there is no final list yet. Diners can save the October dates. Owners can sign up now.
Hydrant testing continues across a broad stretch
Hollywood's water staff will keep up routine fire hydrant tests through early October. The work covers the area from Sheridan Street south to Pembroke Road.
Federal Highway marks the east side. The test area runs west to 21st Avenue. That makes it a broad work zone, not a one-block job.
The city says the tests are routine, not an emergency. Crews may show up at different sites across the zone. The work will wrap up in early October.

The fair runs Thursday, September 10, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. It will be at Hispanic Unity of Florida, 5199 Pembroke Road. Firms will be hiring for both full-time and part-time jobs.
Dress to impress and be ready for an interview on the spot. Register in advance if you plan to attend.
Property appraiser staff return to City Hall

Broward County Property Appraiser staff will hold a two-hour public stop at Hollywood City Hall next Thursday. It runs from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 219.
This is a chance to meet county office staff here in Hollywood. City Hall is at 2600 Hollywood Boulevard.
The stop falls the same morning as the Hispanic Unity job fair. That fair begins at 8:30 a.m. on Pembroke Road, while the City Hall stop begins at 10 a.m.
Two meetings go behind next year's budget
Hollywood will hold two Behind the Budget talks next week with Deputy City Manager Adam Reichbach. The first starts Wednesday, September 9, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
The next talk starts Thursday, September 10, at 6 p.m. at Boulevard Heights Community Center. The talks cover new plans in the FY 2027 budget, Amendment 3, and the funds that pay for city work.
The two sites give residents a choice. They can attend downtown on Wednesday or in west Hollywood on Thursday.
